He finished the season with 7 wins, 0 losses, 2 saves, and 1.99 ERA in 40 innnings with 33 strikeouts. He had a great year and will take the summer off to rest and take classes. Can't wait til next spring to see what God has for him.

SHSU Wins Conference Tourney and will go to the NCAA regionals. Matt was selected tournament MVP

The Huntsville Item wrote about Matt today - click here

Matt pitched in the second and last game of the conference tournament this week and gave up no runs, in 9 1/3 innings with 12 strikeouts total. He was awarded the mvp of the tournmanet because he came into the game in the 4th inning and threw 5 2/3 innings giving up 4 hits (3 in the last inning with two outs) 8Ks and no runs. He was stellar! They will now start the road to the world series. Here is a video of the last few moments of the game.

Sam Houston Beats #7 Baylor

See this link for the story. - http://www.kwtx.com/sports/headlines/43401977.html They brought Matt in for the big final out against the #5 hitting team in the country with two runners on the corners. He gave up a run on two hits but struck out their big home run hitter looking at the plate to get the save. He made it very thrilling...too thrilling for his poor mom.

We found out yesterday that Nate will be staying in Kansas for the summer to play baseball for the Netwon Rebels. Here is their website - http://www.newtonrebels.4t.com/ they start playing games on June 1. I am sad he won't be home for the summer but I know this is what he has to do to be a successful college pitcher but I sure like my chickens home in the nest! Hopefully Rick and I can go up and see some of the games.

April 3rd

Sam Houston played McNeese State tonight, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Matt came in the 7th with one out giving up only 2 hits and had 3 strikeouts and pitched 3.2 innings through the 10th to get his 5th win of the season;
That drops his ERA down to 1.57. The announcers kept talking about his amazing control and big breaking ball.

Nate got his first win in the books! He has doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday so more info to come.

Baseball March 14th

We are here in Kansas and Nate's team won both games to take 1st place in their conference play. Nate warmed up ready to go in for the second game but his roommate Derek ended up pitching the entire game to get a win. He pitched great. So we are hoping Nate will pitch the first game tomorrow before we have to drive home. If he does, we will post some pics.

Sam Houston played Texas State University a doubleheader today in San Marcos. They won the first game but in the second, they were down 6-2 in the last out of the 6th inning and Matt came in to pitch 2 1/3 innings only giving up 1 hit, no runs and 1 strikeout. That will bring his ERA down even further to 2.13. They lost the game but Matt pitched great and hopefully they will win the series tomorrow.

Baseball Update

Matt picked up his 4th win today in relief, while SHSU swept UTA in conference play. He has 11 strikeouts so far. With 4 wins, he is tied for first place in the nation with two other players. http://www.boydsworld.com/data/leaderboard.html#ERA

Nate's team played yesterday in Kansas but had to call the game for a tornado warning. They were hustled off the field and into a concrete building. Only in Kansas, right?
